Windhoek Light's Gold comes home

The Windhoek Light Award home coming ceremony at the Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) headquarters in Windhoek on Friday, celebrating the arrival of NBL’s latest international award, was truly an event fit for a champion.

In 2005, NBL was one of three new entrants to the Brewing Industry International Awards (BIIA), held every second year since 1886 and which broadly reflect the global market for beer. Windhoek Light took Gold in the Non-Alcoholic & Low Alcohol Beers Category. This 2.4% Alcohol by Volume (AVB) beer is a refreshing crisp light beer carefully brewed the Reinheitsgebot way using natural ingredients only; malted barley, hops and water. Sharing the podium on Friday to honour one of NBL’s flagship beers, was the company’s Chairman, Sven Thieme, the Brewing Manager, Franz Schepping, and another Namibian icon, Miss Namibia 2005, Leefa Shiikwa.

Receiving the award on behalf of NBL and its management and staff, Thieme noted that the delivery of quality beverages remains a main focus for Namibia Breweries. “Our beers are not only sought after in various locations worldwide, but NBL continues to receive recognition from international institutions on the quality of our pure beers,” he added. Thieme acknowledge the direct input by the brewing team but reminded the staff that every other department in the Company was important to achieve NBL’s goals.

Said Thieme: “You all directly contributed to the success of this brand Windhoek Light, as well as the quality that is synonymous with Namibian beers.” As part of the celebration, NBL invited South African adventurer and motivational speaker, Riaan Manser, who recounted the challenges and hardships he endured in reaching his dream of circumventing Africa on bicycle. Manser’s tour around Africa lasted over 24 months and NBL, through its Windhoek Light brand, sponsored this trip.
