Windhoek's Wernhil Park up for major face lift

The Ohlthaver and List Group of Companies has started redeveloping the current Wernhil Park Shopping Centre in a project that commenced last week. The project will give the existing centre an overall face lift, at the same time extending the centres' retail area which will result in new retailers being added to the existing tenant mix.
“This will ensure that Wernhil Park Shopping Centre will once again become a premier shopping destination for Windhoek as well as the rest of Namibia,” said Broll Namibia Property Management in a press release this week.

Phase one of the project was completed in June last year. It mainly involved the expansion of Model Pick 'n Pay as well as adding a further 220 parking bays. The project cost N$20 million. The current redevelopment phase will involve the extension of the current retail area from 18000 to 24000 square metres. The construction of an additional parking deck will make provision for an additional 220 parking bays. The second phase will cost N$115 million and will be completed in June next year.

“The overall refurbishment and extension to Wernhil Park Shopping Centre will set a new standard for Windhoek's central business district (CBD) and set the precedence for future expansions to the centre. Upon completion, Wernhil Park Shopping Centre will be able to offer all amenities in terms of leisure and business activities,” said Broll Namibia. About 400 job opportunities will be created during the duration of the development.
