Genre: Action; Sci-Fi; adventure
Rating: ****
Since some recent films have appeared and disappeared within a week, take my advice and see this action film as soon as possible. The third film in the Marvel comic series of Iron Man has not lost any of its sparkle - and, in fact, as a sequel, the film possesses a stronger and smarter storyline than either of its predecessors. The lead actors reprise their roles to create familiar characters with depth and subtlety; and they are ably supported by a strong team of ‘old hands’ in supporting roles. The script is witty in parts and never banal; the action sequences are gargantuan, epic in conception and execution; the storyline contains several relevant themes and messages - and provides humour, mainly through ironical reversals.
Thought provoking art - a horse with no name

Nature claims back the respect that the human race tends to neglect, reminding us of its boundaries and laws. This is the approach that Namibian visual artists Christine Skowski and Raphael Scriba have in their art instillation at the Franco Namibia Cultural Centre (FNCC). “I’ve been through the desert on a horse with no name” currently housed at the gallery takes the viewer on a journey through the desert and time.
Man has always endeavoured to conquer nature. Only a few rare places in the world are so harsh and hostile, that man’s attempts to tame the wild are still futile, small and ridiculous. The desert is a place where time seems to stand still. Man only passes through. He tries to leave his landmarks, to conquer or tame the harsh and hostile environment, but in the end his efforts are futile.
Just like any other instillation this one draws critical attention to the eye and mind of the viewer. It is unique in that it evokes so many different emotions in people. It is not hard to interpret the pieces as they move from destruction to self discovery and then to renewal. The art takes the viewer on a transcendental journey about ourselves and our relationship with the environment. This exhibition encourages the viewer to contemplate how attitude affects the environment, and how the environment affects attitude.

If importing kangaroo meat to Africa is what it takes to keep the price of droewors down, then that is obviously the way to go. At least for now.
Unfortunately Rolf Harris has been linked to alleged child abuse, which means I can’t trust him until the matter has been cleared up. If it were otherwise, I would have spent the last few weeks walking around with the song ‘Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport’ in my head and on my lips. Guilty or not, there is a black upwelling in me, whenever I think about that sort of thing.
The reason the temptation shows up is because kangaroo meat has shown up in some or other brand of the spicy dried sausage, droewors, that I assiduously avoid buying because it is expensive and fattening. I’m not a huge fan of either of the two qualities in anything and, anyway, when I have a bit of spare cash, I’d rather use it to get fat from drinking a couple of beers.

Music lovers will be treated to an exclusive taste of African music when Angolan Afro-pop musician Helder Mendes and his five-piece band perform at the Warehouse Theatre this Friday evening.
Hailing from the province Kwanza Norte and having grown up in Luanda, Hélder Mendes has been influenced by musicians such as Youssou N’dour, Angélique Kidjo, Salif Keita, Waldemar Bastos, Baaba Maal and Filipe Mukenga. Mixing different genres and singing in Portuguese as well as various vernacular languages, Mendes has two albums under his name, “Okwaba Africa” (‘African Beauty’, 2006) and ‘Vumbi’ (‘Spirit’, 2010), both recorded and produced in Spain. This talented young singer and songwriter has performed in Spain, Belgium and France, apart from Angola. This is his first tour through southern Africa. At five years of age in Ndalatando, the capital of Kwanza Norte, Mendes already showed his love for music. The artist comes from a family of musicians, his paternal grandfather was composer and singer in the Methodist Church and his aunts also sang in a church choir.
