A big welcome: A bill board welcomes the public to the 10th Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair. The trade fair started on 27 August and will end this Saturday, 4 September. To celebrate a decade of exhibition, the fair is being hosted under the theme “come and join us.”

Pupkewitz Honda recently launched the Honda semi-naked stunner bike. For motorbike enthusiasts, the name naked or semi-naked bike bring back memories of the sixties when dagga smoking gangsters from Johannesburg’s East Rand would roam the streets in gangs looking for trouble.
Chain gangs, as they were known, all shared the same image. A sexy girl with long hair as pillion, a chrome chain across the saddle from crashbar to crashbar, black leather jacket with a menacing design on the back, faded jeans, cowboy boots, and most important, a naked bike, i.e. a motorcycle without fairing or panniers. And in most cases, a straight pipe without any baffling.
Appealing to this nostalgic sentiment, Honda wants to fill a particular niche with their CBF600S.
The CBF600S bike was launched in October 2009 worldwide and is expected to be seen in the showrooms of Honda dealers across the globe.
Dealer principal of Pupkewitz-Honda, Phillip van der Merwe said the motorcycle is set to become a legend in its own way because of its impeccable and stunning handling package with compact fuel injected 600 cc power plant based priced to sell at N$65 000.
According to van der Merwe, the semi-naked CBF600S is renowned for its ability to deliver comfort, performance and ease of handling in all kinds of situations.
“The CBF600S is a reliable partner on any road, in any weather and fun to ride, eager to tackle any task and offering a comfortable ride.
“Crowned by a beautifully integrated, frame mounted cowl that offers wind protection at higher speeds and has its own distinctive and aerodynamic elegance,” van der Merwe said.
He explained that Honda’s pursuit to answer the changing market and needs of the customers created the need for a more cost-effective entry level into street bike in the medium capacity sector with the introduction of the Honda CBF600S semi naked stunner bike that will be replaced by  the CB600F or Hornet.
In addition, van der Merwe said his company will also reintroduce the classic GLH1800 or Goldwing Honda touring bike to the Namibian market.
He was confident that the Goldwing still reigns as the world’s most advanced and full-featured touring motorcycle because of its distinctive good looks, unique flat-six engine, advanced comfort and safety technologies.
“This year the king of the road, Goldwing is offered in two beautiful new colours that emphasise its sophistication.
“The quick-starting fuel-injected Goldwing engine is renowned for its long-haul power and strong performance. The motorcycle’s huge carrying capacity and luxurious ride quality make touring smooth and easy.
“Its quiet operation and the broad, wind-deflecting fairing together create a serene, relaxed ride. The compliant suspension systems feature a computer-controlled adjustable pre-load damper while the powerful ABS ensures confident braking, even in difficult circumstances,” van der Merwe said.

Pupkewitz-Great Wall Motors (GWM) recently introduced the new model CB150 and CB150ME hatchback vehicles into the market.
“We encourage our customers to express their individuality by choosing the options that best reflect their lifestyle and personality,” Uwe Kessler, the principal dealer of Pupkewitz-GWM said.
According to Kessler, the Pupkewitz-GWM is excited that the GWM has added a new model to its line-up of brands and products. He is confident that his company will continue to offer their customers with good quality and affordable vehicles within the country.
Kessler informed the Economist that the launch of the vehicles in the country is scheduled for a date to be announced in October.
The managing director of South Africa-GWM, Henri Meistre said many motorists are still recovering from the global economic downturn and are looking into more affordable vehicle options.
He said with the introduction of C150 and C150ME, GWM wants to prove that price-sensitive clients do not have to compromise on affordability, features, space or individuality.
“GWM is offering an affordable alternative to clients who want ample interior space and a car with personality and economically suitable for clients to purchase after the global economic downturn,” Meistre said.
The 1.5 litre CB150 and C150ME has a fuel-injected GW 4G15 petrol engine with a maximum speed in excess of 165 km/h and fuel consumption of 7.2 litres/100km.(45 litre tank).
These vehicles have a maximum power output of 77 kW, producing a maximum torque of 138 Nm and have the fuel-injected 1.5 VVT motor.
Both five-door and seater vehicles comes standard with power steering, five-speed manual gearbox
Their huge windscreen, large-front headlamps, grill and unique rear give it a distinctive look and they also offers space, convenience and comfort.
Each of the vehicle is equipped with driver and passenger airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), side impact protection bars as well as immobiliser and remote central locking.
The length of each vehicle is less than 4m, while the height is 1.634 mm and 1.695 mm wide.
They are available in black, white, silver and blue with air-conditioning, electric windows and mirrors, a front-loading CD and MP3-player as well as park assistance standard features.

LA Sport certainly needs no introduction. The franchise is well known all over South Africa and the Namibian branch is one of the current 18 branches. In January 2010, LA Sport moved into their new upmarket showroom in Lazarett Street. Owner, Jaco Stassen, made certain that all outdoor lovers will visit his store sooner or later, but be prepared... you will not leave empty handed. Even going there purely for this article`s purpose, I ended up buying a couple of items.
Jaco stated that instead of gadgets and trimmings, he would rather be known as a serious 4-wheel drive equipment megastore and LA Sport is therefore the home brand for the TJM range which include TJM XGS suspensions, including the new range of gold edition shock absorbers, Airtec snorkels and full bumper replacement bull bars with integrated winch plates, for most makes of 4x4’s. Initially the TJM Brand was relatively unknown but they succeeded in changing it into a household name.

Numsa strike: a non-event locally PDF Print E-mail

An eight-day strike by the National Union of Me-talworkers of SA (Numsa) which ended on Friday       (20 August) did not affect operations of local car dealers according to an investigation by the Economist.
The National Union of Metalworkers of SA went on strike after the Automobile Manufacturers Employers Organisation (Ameo) refused workers’ demands for a 15% wage increase.
As a result of the strike, Ameo chairman Chris Thexton said employers lost about 2100 cars a day, with N$8 million lost in daily wages.
However, according to Etienne Steenkamp, general manager Pupkewitz Toyota, since the strike lasted only a couple of days, production of new vehicles were not seriously affected. “They (car manufacturers) had a bit of buffer stock.
“Most manufacturers experience shortages and various business cycles of over and undersupply from time to time. This is nothing more than the normal run of the mill with demand planning challenges,” Steenkamp said.
He however conceded that the manufacturers stock levels were depleted as a result of the strike and they (Pupkewitz Toyota) were struggling with the availability of parts. “Stock levels are however depleted and some production catch-up will be on the cards.    Parts unavailability were slightly more inconvenient, especially for panel parts. There is a bit of a backlog for parts supply, but Toyota S.A. office staff (who jumped in) assisted that dealers did not run out of service parts; which were prioritised. Things will be back to normal within the next 3 to 4 weeks,” Steenkamp said.
Richard Walh, the principal dealer at Danric Auto said: “ We knew it (the strike) could have a problem and so we planned in advance, and in any case most of our parts come from Germany so the strike did not affect us.
Nobert Zimmerman of Zimmerman Garage said “If you have a good supplier like we have in VW S. A. and you have one or two months’ stock then a one week strike will not affect supplies.”
