A unique book on the geomorphology of Namibia will be launched at Studio 77 on Thursday, 19 November, at 17H30. Original art works by Christine Marais, which form an integral part of the book will be on exhibition and for sale at the launch. For the past three years geologist Roger Swart and artist Christine Marais have collaborated on this book which seeks to explain the geomorphology (geo = earth, morphology = study of structure) and the natural shapes of the Namibian landscape, with paintings, diagrams and text. Roger Swart has lived and worked all over Namibia and has a doctorate in Geology. He works internationally as a consulting geologist. Christine Marais is well known as an artist of the natural history of Namibia, and has worked together with scientists on several books, ranging from the flora and fauna to the fossils of Namibia. The book has been carefully written to be understood by those who do not have a scientific education, but are interested in the landscapes of Namibia. Beautiful paintings accompany the text and the different areas covered by the book are illustrated with satellite photographs. The book will be officially launched by Dr John Ward, a renowned Namibian geologist and recipient of the prestigious Henno Martin Medal, by the Geological Society of Namibia.
Were we to choose our leaders on the basis of their reading experience and not their political programs, there would be much less grief on earth. I believe ... that for someone who has read a lot of Dickens to shoot his like in the name of an idea is harder than for someone who has read no Dickens.
