NamPol uses IT against crime

Several policemembers of the Khomas Region have successfully completed a course in Information Technology to improve law enforcement in the region. This week, the Namibian Police, Khomas Region, launched their new computer centre at a breakfast event in the capital city.
This forms part of the initiative by the Namibian Police to ensure a ‘Secure Khomas for all’. The computer centre was established in collaboration with the Institute of Information Technology.  The launch of the computer centre was followed by the awarding of certificates to eleven NamPol officers stationed in the Khomas region. At the breakfast meeting, Police Commissioner Festus Shilongo said that they have shown exceptional dedication and passed a course in information and technology training.
Officer in charge of the Institute of Information Technology and Namibian Police Force member,   Constable Lodewyk Van Graan commended the group saying “It takes a lot of courage for someone to say teach me, I want to learn! You have all shown that you have the desire to improve and add  to your knowledge and for that you all deserve a pat on the back”. Khomas Regional Commander, Commissioner Shilongo extended an invitation to the Namibian business community to help the police force to fight crime as there will not be a secure Khomas for all without support from the community.
Regional Governor for the Khomas Region, Samuel Nujoma also commended the graduates and said that the knowledge gained will make their work easier and make a difference not only in their individual lives but also in the  police unit. He also urged the public to create neighbourhood watch groups and be their own and each other’s policemen.
