The Shoprite Centre in Otjiwarongo is currently receiving a facelift that will turn it into a one stop shopping centre for residents of the norhern town.
Mirinda van der Merwe, Leasing Director of the Safland Property Group announced in a statement that the new Town Square will  be opened in April 2013.
She said: “We are extremely excited about this venture and are looking forward to the opening, thereby enabling many new businesses to start and creating new employment opportunities in the Northern Town of Otjiwarongo.”
Town Square Otjiwarongo is situated in the central business district and will become a new shopping hub incorporating some of the existing shops.
Van der Merwe added: “More than 90% of the tenants are unique, which is important to us, as new businesses will come to fruition. None of the new tenants are competition for any of the existing shops and local business owners. For example, no coffee shop will be in Town Square as an existing Otjiwarongo resident has a coffee shop in that area and rather than compete with that shop, we aim to enhance that business by ensuring more shoppers.”
The new shopping complex will cost about N$49 million and more than 130 new employment opportunities will be available once the shopping centre becomes operational. During construction more than 74 permanent jobs are guaranteed.
