The Old Mutual Far North Championship for soccer and netball at club level has developed into a major development platform for these two sport codes. The 9th Annual Old Mutual Far North Championship was launched in Ongwediva on Cassinga Day.
Since 2004, Old Mutual has contributed over N$1.2 million for the promotion and organisation of this event. The insurance giant availed a total sponsorship of N$227,000 this year.
After the launch, Old Mutual said “Clearly, more than just good health, and the promotion of sport in Namibia, is at stake here - this sporting platform allows us to directly contribute to the educational success of our winners too.”
In partnering with the Ministry of Youth, National Service and Culture and Schoemans, prize winners will be awarded with a photocopier machine to the value of N$15 000 including cash prizes, trophies and medals; while regional winners from Ohangwena, Oshikoto, Omusati and Oshana will each receive N$3000, N$2000 and N$1000 for first, second and third places respectively.
