The International Bank Windhoek Enduro race this past Saturday created a huge amount of interest, while riders were thoroughly tested on a challenging track. The track, which included all kinds of terrain, was challenging enough. With the wind and the dust, the track became just too much for some of the riders and their iron horses.
The section that created the most excitement for the spectators took the riders through parts of the dilapidated mining processing plant of the Uis mine. With this part of the track, the technical abilities of the riders were tested to the limit, while the sandy stretches on the mine heaps gave the riders an opportunity to satisfy their need for speed. Other parts had so many rocks that the riders who strayed from the path were in immediate difficulty.
Riders from South Africa, Zambia, Kenya and Zimbabwe came to Uis to test their mettle against their Namibian counterparts. Some of the riders from other countries already booked their places for next year.

The mission of the German basketball expert Peter Schey to Namibia successfully concluded on 31 May.
In a two-week series of clinics in Northern Namibia around 80 coaches, future coaches and teachers participated in Schey’s clinics in Tsumeb, Oshakati and Rundu. 55 were awarded certificates for their achievements. Schey was delighted about the results achieved and especially with the rising number of female participants who formed one third to one half of the participants per clinic.
The main focus of Schey’s project was to implement the new FIBA 3x3 game which is particularly suited for Namibian conditions, due to its easy rules and good practicability. Schey initiated the 3x3 Northern Namibian Basketball League (NNBL). The league will take place from June to August and will conclude with championships at the Tsumeb Copper Festival.
“It was our most successful project so far. The two previous short term projects in 2010 and 2012 as well as the long-term project finally yielded fruit”, Schey summed up his recent experiences. “You can see that Namibian basketball is making a lot of progress and the joint efforts of the 3x3 league seem to be very promising, too. I hope that consequently a Namibian 3x3 championship will take place next year”, concluded Schey.
