Prices have gone up by 25 cent per litre for both unleaded and lead replacement petrol. The diesel price was increased by 6 cent per litre. The new price takes effect this Friday.
The increases means the new Walvis Bay pump price for 95 Octane (unleaded) is now N$6.64, from N$6.39, while 93 Octane (Lead Replacement Petrol) will now cost N$6.62 from N$6.37.
Diesel will now cost N$6.38 per litre.

Pump prices at various inland destinations countrywide will also be changed accordingly.
Minister of Mines and Energy Erkki Nghimtina said in a statement that crude oil prices continue to surge and remain tight worldwide. During May crude oil prices hovered between US$68 and US$72 per barrel.
“This has contributed to the import parity being negatively affected leading to the under recoveries experienced in the local market,” said Nghimtina.
Looming threats of supply disruption in major oil exporting nations such as Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Nigeria also contributed to the significant oil price increases in May.
“The current pattern of increasing demand for petroleum products, combined with increased crude oil prices, has led to bullish market behaviour pushing up crude oil prices to the record highs experienced during 2006. These factors are impacting on the import parity in a way that higher margin of under recoveries are being recorded in our local market resulting in fuel increases,” the Minister said.
