| Representative in Namibia for the United Nations Children’s Fund, Ian Macleod (left) with UNICEF’s global chief of HIV/AIDS Ambassador Jimmy Kolker said they are impressed with HIV/AIDS awareness progress. They observed there are many other services engaged in the fight against HIV, but the disease prevalence remains high. Macleod said Namibia is amongst the five countries with the highest HIV infections in the world, and although there appears to be strong knowledge about HIV prevention it does not seem to be applied. He said the country has made considerable progress in reaching some Millenium Development Goals, but the pace to reach the goals fully is compromised by the effects of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and the increasing food insecurity. Macleod said the integration of services for HIV/AIDS are apparent at all levels. |
