Dear Sir,
My wife and I recently visited Namibia for a brief business/pleasure trip. We arrived at Windhoek, rented a VW Golf, and headed off to Swakopmund via B1 and B2. All too soon it was time for us to resume our journey back to Canada and, on June 26, we set off for Windhoek - on C28 for different scenery. All went well until we had a flat tyre near the junction with D1412.
We had a spare, which was in good shape and the jack
worked reasonably well. However, when it came time to remove the wheel,
it was seized onto the hub. We tried for an hour to remove the wheel to
no avail. It was getting dark and C28 evidently carries very little
traffic.
Eventually, a 4x4 arrived with two ladies who were very helpful. They set off to find rescuers for us. Shortly afterwards another 4x4 stopped and again we were offered help. Later, another 4x4 arrived dispatched by the first pair of ladies, and eventually yet another truck stopped to help. All in all, about a dozen people came to our rescue and, with the help of a large axe, the wheel was removed, the spare installed, and we set off, in the dark, back to Windhoek - with one truck following us to make sure we made it in one piece. We hope this letter will be published to allow us to again thank all those Namibians who stopped to help us on C28. We should go further and extend our thanks to all those we met during our few days in your beautiful country. Hotel staff, doctors, shopkeepers, people on the street, were all friendly, sincere, and helpful. Thank you all.
