The Christina Swart-Opperman (CSO) Aids Orphan Foundation Trust was approached by Old Mutual to identify a home that could benefit from its social responsibility programme. The trust decided on Orlindi’s Place of Safety, which is based in Katutura. Old Mutual contributed N$5000 that was handed over on 8 July to Claudia Namises, the Project Coordinator at Orlindi’s Place of Safety. The money will go a long way in assisting the 34 children under her care. Some of these children were abandoned by their parents and many are HIV positive. Present at the handover ceremony were (from left) Drusilla Garoes, the Mother of the Home, Namises, Ambassador Tonata Itenge (Trustee of the CSO Trust), Lionel Kannemeyer (Old Mutual’s Employee Benefit Executive) and Dr Christina Swart-Opperman (Founder of the CSO Trust). Swart-Opperman said the trust first learnt about Orlindi’s Place of Safety after reading about it in 2003, and made its first contribution of blankets, tracksuits, towels and other necessities in May 2004. It has also been providing food on a monthly basis. (Photograph by CSO Trust)
