Sir -, The article by your staff reporter,
Desie Heita, on page 3 of last weeks Economist refers. Although we appreciate
his frustrations and that of other media in attendance, we are not in the habit
of wasting anyone's time least that of the media and take offense to the
inclination of his article.
It was both
disappointment and dismay that I read the said article. Disappointment that a
reporter abuses such a platform and dismays that it is actually allowed without
establishing the facts. If all the facts were stated correctly in the article,
it would have been more acceptable. What is not mentioned in the said article is
that our guest speaker, Dr. Sam Nujoma, canceled his attendance at the last
minute due to another urgent appointment that came up. What was not mentioned
is that the speaker would have discussed a very topical issue that is not found
on any website. Thus, although not happy most of the media accepted the apology
by our Group CEO, Advocate Rukoro at the luncheon.
May I also mention
that we also had several calls from both media and captains of industry who
attended the function and who dissociate themselves from the angle and content
of Mr. Heita's article.
Although it is
mentioned that the opinions raised in the Khuta are that of the author and not
the Economist, I am sure that, as with all public letters, it was approved by
you? Be it as it may, taken Mr. Heita's
approach to such matters, we would appreciate, in future, you would rather
avail a more responsible reporter to attend FNB functions, one that reports
accurate and balanced, rather than seeking the extreme to boost his own image.
As always, I will
appreciate an open discussion with you on this matter.
Yours Truly,
RD Norval
