Using the proceeds of just one trading day, local stock broking firm, Simonis Storm Securities, in partnership with their trading partners in South Africa, JP Morgan Equities Limited, Merrill Lynch SA, Barnard Jacobs Mellet Securities, Investec Securities Limited and Macquarie First South Securities, raised N$200 000 which went to five Namibian charities at the end of January.

Witnessed by the Minister of Finance, Hon Saara Kuugongelwa, managing director of Simonis Storm Securities, Andrew Jannsen said "Just as no man is an island, no organization can function in isolation. It is through constant interaction with, and monitoring of the environment in which it operates that areas of need and opportunity are identified and acted upon."

"Simonis Storm Securities is in a position to help where help is needed. We pooled together all our resources and raised the funds which we are about to proudly give to our beneficiaries." he added.

On 18 November 2006 Simonis Storm celebrated its tenth anniversary. To mark this major milestone, the directors decided to plough back some of its success into the community. Calling it the Charity Dealing Day, Simonis Storm Securities in conjunction with its brokering partners in South Africa and with the support of Namibian investment managers, clocked an impressive number of deals which gave Namibia a new record: Biggest amount raised for charity in a single day. Local asset managers who supported the effort are Old Mutual Asset Managers Namibia, Allan Gray Namibia, Investec Asset Management Namibia, Namibia Asset Management, Sanlam Investment Management Namibia, Prudential Portfolio Managers Namibia and Rand Merchant Bank Namibia.

"By doing what we do best for our clients, buying and selling shares on the Namibian Stock Exchange and JSE Securities Exchange, Simonis Storm Securities raised N$200,000," said Jannsen while thanking the investment managers for their support.

The recipients of the charity funds are Katutura Old Age Home, Dagbreek School for impaired learners, Beautiful Gate Namibia which operates a large day-care centre, Physically Active Youth Namibia which assists learners from disadvantaged communities and Transformation Namibia which helps with training and education in preprimary schools.
