LLD’s striking workers suspended PDF Print

LLD Diamonds, a cutting and processing unit of the Lev Leviev Group of Companies of Israel, has suspended 180 striking workers, Managing Director Kombadayedu Kapwanga has said.
Kapwanga said the workers went on strike on Thursday last week demanding changes in the company’s management structure.

“They want one of our senior managers to be dismissed and the lawyer, who represents the company in wage negotiations with the Mineworkers Union of Namibia, to be replaced,” he said.
“The strike is illegal and the union is not supporting it,” he added.
The factory employs 410 workers, Kapwanga said.
He said production at the factory has not been affected, as the rest of the workers are not on strike.
The factory produces 12 000 carats of cut diamonds per month although it has a capacity to produce 25 000 carats.
“We have a shortage of diamonds locally. We only receive 4 000 carats from De Beer’s output in Namibia and we have to import the remaining 8 000 carats from abroad,” Kapwanga.
