A fire broke out at Rossing Uranium’s Visitor Centre, which is at the mine, at about 02h00 on Sunday, 22 June resulting in extensive damage to the offices and the structure of the building, Noel Mouton, Acting General
Manager of Corporate Services, said this week.
The cause of the fire was still being investigated, he said. “The mine’s fire brigade team acted swiftly and had the fire under control quickly. No personnel sustained injuries while the fire was put out,” Mouton said. The mine’s corporate communications and environmental management personnel operated from the building, and it was also the centre for hosting visiting groups to the mine, he said. “The incident will have no impact on the mine’s production targets. At this stage the value of the damage is still to be determined,” Mouton said. |
