Daan Roux, owner of Colourgem, looks set to ensure Namibia a position on the map of the world’s travel destinations. While many may have been thinking that his company would not look beyond its flagship publication Where to Stay, Roux has shown that he is full of surprises. With Where to Stay currently considered the country’s travel bible, Roux says he has many other means of selling the country.

| Owner of Colourgem Daan Roux, who is on a crusade to market Namibia as a preferred tourist destination. |
After taking over the publication of Where to Stay – which is available
to all visitors to Namibia at Hosea Kutako Airport - three years ago,
Roux has now transformed it into a 460-page informative, full-colour,
concise yet extensive travel guide, providing much more than just a
very thorough and systematic listing of all accommodation
establishments that matter.
The book cannot be called small any more. Although the format is still
a convenient pocket-book, it is now so thick it will tear most pockets
and the uninformed traveller will be excused for thinking one can kill
a lion with it. After 12 years of continuous publication and
improvement, the 2008 edition has established a reputation as a
comprehensive and authoritative guidebook on all aspects of visiting
Namibia.
But Roux still has more ideas of taking the Namibian travel market
further. He told the Economist this week that he researched how the
international travel market views Namibia as a product and noted that
the country is not an easy product to sell.
