Standard Bank has announced the winners of the Women of Excellence, a competition it organised to honour women involved in community projects dealing with HIV, poverty alleviation and education. Mpumzi Pupuma, the bank’s Managing Director, said each of the five winning projects received N$10 000 and the overall two top winners received an additional N$25 000. Pupuma urged the winners to use their prize money wisely to achieve their projects’ goals. One of the winners, Monica Matti-Nyaungwa of Monitronic Success College said education was an empowering tool that empowered children to become leaders and prevent them from falling into a life of poverty and crime. She urged politicians to give education a priority, as it was the only way of eradicating poverty and other social ills. At the prize giving event this week were Monica Matti-Nyaungwa, Miss Namibia Marelize Robberts, Pupuma, Susan de Beer, Margreth Hange and Anna Owoses of the Okahandja Home-based Caregivers.
