Air Namibia has launched a revamped website and an Internet Online Booking Engine, as it implements its E-Commence strategy, which it says is in line with the airline’s corporate standards. Also launched on 27 May was the airline’s Internet booking and ticket system powered by Videocom, a UK-based aviation industry solution provider.

The credit card payment gateway supporting the Air Namibia Internet booking system is provided by PayGate (Pty) Limited, a South African outfit specialising in the provision of on-line credit payment gateways.
Speaking at the launch, Lea Namoloh, Vice Chairperson of Air Namibia Board, said: “The decision to revamp the website and introduce the Internet booking and ticket system is part of implementing the E-business strategy adopted by Air Namibia.”
The Internet booking engine is aimed at meeting growing customers’ needs and demands, providing a better reach to global markets, and improving competitiveness of the airline through cost reduction and revenue enhancement. The system allows passengers to make their seat reservations for booking via the Internet. It enables passengers to make routine selection, check availability of flight seats and cabin class selection without leaving their homes or offices.
The system can cater for up to nine passengers per booking.
Namoloh said, “Air Namibia is well aware of the risks of Internet fraud, and necessary controls aimed at mitigating these risks have been implemented to protect both the airline and our esteemed customers.”
Only VISA and MasterCard credit cards types – which are 3D secure codes compliant – will be accepted when when using airline’s Internet booking system.  Namoloh assured clients that the performance of the Internet booking engine is “sound and robust”. The airline has managed to sell and issue a total of 7 985 tickets having a combined monetary value of N$19.8 million during a seven months period since it started experimenting with the system.
