Local service stations dig deep PDF Print

Surging global oil prices are forcing local service station owners to dig deeper into their pockets in an attempt to keep their service stations operational.

This was heard during the annual conference of the Association of Service Station Owners (ASSO), held at the Windhoek Country Club this week.
The “Bridging the gap” conference discussed issues affecting the retail business of petroleum products leading to 2010 and on how to bridge the gap, despite the ever-increasing energy demand.
Namibia is in a race against time to ensure that the country has sufficient resources to meet future oil demands. The total world stock of vehicles expected to rise from 700 million in 2005 to 1.2 by 2030, and the global volume of commercial vehicles is anticipated to more than double.
In his key note address, Deputy Minister of Mines and Energy Bernard Essau said, “There is excitement in that Namibia may have substantial upstream oil and gas resources to be developed for the benefit of all Namibians”.
