Namibia and Zambia have pledged to work together to
strengthen their bilateral and political relations.
The pledge was made last week during the visit of Zambian President
Levy Mwanawasa. The Zambian leader was the guest of President Hifikepunye
Pohamba during Namibia's 17th Independence anniversary celebrations
held last week.
Mwanawasa was accompanied by First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa
and ministers of mines, communication and transport, home affairs and gender
and women affairs.
Mwanawasa and Pohamba held talks on a wide range of
bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest.
In a communiqué released at the end of Mwanawasa's visit, the
two countries reaffirmed their full commitment to further deepen and broaden
these relations for the mutual benefit of their two peoples.
The two Presidents noted the progress made in the
implementation of the bilateral cooperation programmes between the two
countries in various sectors such as agriculture, mines and energy, education
and training, health, local government, trade and investment, environment and
tourism, transport and communication, sport and culture, diplomatic cooperation
and the legal sector, as agreed upon by the two sides during the Zambia-Namibia Joint Permanent Commission of
Cooperation, held in Lusaka in November last year.
