Aflatoun, which means explorer in the Arabic language, is a financial literacy programme for primary school children. The programme helps children break the cycle of poverty through a socially empowering educational programme focused on child rights and personal economic education. Standard Bank Managing Director Mpunzi Pupuma said the bank was taking financial education and literacy seriously. The Aflatoun programme is designed to create an educational and social environment in which children will develop positive and proactive mindsets. Pupuma said the Aflatoun campaign will teach primary school learners all about finances and money matters, and will speak to children aged between 6 and 14. About 48 000 students are expected to benefit from the programme.
