With home ground advantage, the Brave Warriors managed to make it worth the spectators’ while by giving them something they had been awaiting for a long time: a win. The Brave Warriors played against Kenya in a 2010 World Cup qualifier at the Independence Stadium on Saturday and won 2 – 1.
The Warriors are currently on top of Group 3 with three points and will face Zimbabwe this weekend in Harare. The nations in Group 3 are Namibia, Zimbabwe, Kenya and Guinea, and only two teams can go through to the following stage. A win this weekend will only strengthen the Warriors’ chances of making it to the next round of the World Cup qualifiers. Although some players could not be on the lineup for the match against Zimbabwe, the players are ready and well prepared for the upcoming match. The nation can’t wait for Saturday to see the Warriors on the pitch clashing with the Zimbabweans with the hope of an away game win. The team left on Wednesday this week for Harare. The Namibian lineup is as follows: (goalkeepers) Attiel Mbaha, Esau Tjiuoro, (defenders) Toromba Hartman, Richard Gariseb, Steven Goaxab, Ivan Namaseb, Jamunuvandu Ngatjizeko, (midfielders) Brian Brendall, Jeremia Baisako, Oliver Risser, Quinton Jacobs, Tugela Tuyeni, Brian Gurirab, (forwards) Wilco Risser, Floris Diergaardt, Pineas Jacob, Costa Khaiseb and Arend von Stryk. The officials accompanying Schans on the trip are Kornelius Kapenda, Tim Isaacs, Fillimon Kanalelo, Brian Isaacs, Gerson Kandjii and Christine Nashenda. The team is boosted by the presence of Oliver Risse, an international player based in Germany. The upcoming match will require everything from the Namibian side that lost out in the inaugural African Nations Championship to Zimbabwe last month. The remaining fixtures for Namibia are as follows: a home game on 14 June against Guinea and an away match on 22 June, an away match against Kenya on 6 September and a home game against Zimbabwe on 10 October. According to sources, Zimbabwe has called up its international players for the qualifying matches. The Zimbabwean team was apparently poised emerge the winner in Group 3 in the race for a place in the 2010 World Cup. With their draw and being even on points with Guinea on the second spot of the group, sources said Zimbabwe will need to give its all in the match against Namibia. |
