The recent Officer Bearers Elections of the Swakopmund Municipal Council last week saw the former Deputy Mayor, Germina Ndapua Shitaleni, taking up the reins as Mayor of the coastal resort town. Councillor Shitaleni, who assumed office on 9 May 2008, took over from Rosina //Hoabes, who is now the Deputy Chairperson of the Management Committee. Councillor Paul Rooi was elected as the Deputy Mayor and Vice Chairperson of the Council.

In her acceptance speech, Shitaleni said, “The vision of the Swakopmund Municipality Council is to provide and maintain safe, sufficient and affordable services for residents and visitors and promote future developments to the benefit of our community.”
She urged her staff members to re-dedicate themselves to service delivery without fear or favour, and to be transparent in executing their duties.
Councillor Johannes Ngolombe was elected Chairperson of the Management Committee and will be joined on the board by Councillor Priscilla Kavita and Councillor Trofimus Shikongo.
Councillor Elifas //Khoaseb, Councillor Sofia Motinga, Councillor Peter Steinkopff and Councillor Abilas !Gaseb, will continue to serve in their capacity as members of the council.
