Mobile phone industry agree on blacklisting stolen phones PDF Print
Written by Staff Reporters

Cell One has entered into a partnership with other stakeholders in the mobile telecommunication industry to blacklist all phones that are reported as stolen, its Corporate Communications Officer, Jegg Christiaan, said this week. Details of the partnership were released on 13 May.

He said the agreement is aimed at ensuring that mobile operators share information on stolen handsets and prevent them from being used in the various networks.
Christiaan said Cell One customers are advised to report all stolen phones to nearest police stations to ensure that the blacklisting process is conducted legally. He said stolen cell phones are identified by the unique serial number and once proof of theft is submitted that phone will be added to the company's database of stolen phones.
He said Cell One will share the list of blacklisted phones with other operators in Namibia to ensure that the phones are blocked on other networks as well.
