Orion Telecom, which forms part of
Altx-listed Vox Telecom, this week opened operations in Namibia. Jacques du Toit, MD of Orion Telecom,
said during a ceremony in Windhoek that the company had entered the
Namibian market by acquiring a local company, Telkom Ericsson. Since
its inception in 1971, Telkom has gained a reputation as a leading
Namibian PBX company with over 2500 Namibian customers.
Telkom Ericsson, previously a privately
owned family-run business, services 25% of the Namibian corporate and
government market. Earlier in the year, Orion Telecom's parent
company, Vox Telecom bought Definity Telecom Namibia, which provides
least cost-routing solutions for large Namibian corporations.
“We have consolidated our service
offering in Namibia,” said du Toit. “The establishment of our
operation in the region has given Orion Telecom access to a whole new
customer base and is in line with our ongoing expansion into the
continent.”
Orion Telecom provides a full range and
voice and data solutions for the Namibian corporate and government
sectors and has established points of presence in Windhoek, Walvis
Bay, Keetmanshoop, Otjiwarongo, Tsumeb, Ondangwa and Oranjemund.
The integration of the two companies
into the Vox Telecom Group was concluded with the existing management
teams and there were no staff cutbacks.
