The Polytechnic of Namibia and the Institute for Management and Leadership Training (IMLT) this week signed a Memorandum of Understanding in which both organisations undertook to show dedication to the entrepreneurial education of Namibia’s high potentials, the students. In future all final year students will have the opportunity to take part in computer-based business simulation seminars and receive mentoring by trained experts.

Fanie Oosthuizen, Managing Director of IMLT, with Dr. Tjima Tjivikua, Rector of the Polytechnic of Namibia, after their organisations forged a partnership.

The seminars are specifically designed to stimulate entrepreneurial, management and strategic-thinking skills within the participants, allowing them to learn hands-on. In a playful context they become aware of the interdependence of variables affecting a business and learn how to manage an own business.
The rollout of the business simulation programme will take place in four phases, whereby IMLT will support the Polytechnic with the integration of the seminars into the curriculum. Polytechnic staff will take full responsibility and ownership of the programme, as well as providing high quality seminars jointly with IMLT experts.
The Polytechnic and IMLT say they have recognised entrepreneurship as a major success factor for economic growth in Namibia. Additionally it is a viable and alternative career option for the students and both partners are dedicated to promote self-employment with the business simulation programme.
It is the aim of both organisations to contribute to an improved entrepreneurial culture and environment in Namibia from which small enterprises can emerge and prosper.
