The Tunacor Group is transforming into a powerful player in the process of adding value to fish as well as marketing of hake, says its Liaison Officer, Nurella Ngozu. Tunacor does not only support the local Walvis Bay community where the company is based, but is committed to supporting development projects in various regions, she said.

Ngozu said there is a Tunacor Charitable Trust that is making a substantial contribution in a significant way to the under-privileged. Tunacor is a responsible corporate citizen that takes its responsibilities towards the Namibian community at large very seriously.
Ngozu said Tunacor has been supplying fish products below cost to different regions. She said the company supplies fish products at very reasonable prices to local communities and has contributed a significant amount of money to the development of the waterfront in Henties Bay.
The company has also contributed a significant amount of money to the development of a maternity clinic and has hosted more than 10 educational tours for schools and churches during 2007 during which invaluable information about the fishing industry and processing facilities were shared with the visiting groups.
She said for 2008 Tunacor has made various donations in the form of fish products and cash valued at more than N$400 000 to local community projects, school hostels and pensioners in the country.
Ngozu says, with the recent floods in the Northern regions, Tunacor also donated to alleviate the difficulties experienced by the people affected by the floods.
The company has identified community projects within the Erongo Region, which it support on a regular basis.
