NamPower and Tullow are to resume talks on the development of the Kudu Gas project next week, Bertholdt Mbuere ua Mbuere, the power utility’s general manager of transmission, has said. Mbuere said this week that progress on the Kudu Gas Project has been slow, but reiterated that Tullow and NamPower would meet to iron out their differences, which are mainly bordered on which currency the gas would be sold. Tullow is demanding that the gas be US dollar pegged.

Mbuere further announced that NamPower is looking at a number of emergency options, including diesel and wind power, to pull out the country from southern Africa’s current power crunch.
He said the utility is planning to build a 100MW diesel power station that will serve as an emergency measure to reduce the possibilities of load shedding.
He said if all goes well, the plant would come on stream in the next 12 months. NamPower will also call for tenders to construct the fourth unit at the Ruacana Hydro Power Station, Mbuere said.
