Work to refurbish the Windhoek Country Club is on course for the June completion deadline. This is the hotel’s first refurbishment since it opened its doors in 1993 when it hosted the Miss Universe pageant with half completed infrastructure. Tony Boucher, general manager of the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino, said the renovations had become a necessity in terms of upgrading and modernising the hotel. The refurbishment was also necessitated by requests from regular visitors.

Staff members assist with renovations at the Windhoek Country Club.

“We are very proud to be able to say, that these renovations have been done by Namibian companies, something that we wanted from the very beginning. I am talking about companies like Designer Leisure and Homes, Namib Wood, Electro Hoon, Stucco Italiano, Paint Logix Lifestyle, Promac Paints, Lifestyle Painters, Ronel Knoetze for the curtains and Floordek,” said Boucher.
The refurbishment will give the hotel an enhanced character and create a feeling of freshness, chic and spaciousness, said Sandra Lamprecht, who is responsible for interior design.
Executive desks and leather chairs have been added to the rooms to cater for business people, as well as built-in safes larger enough to store laptops.
Slimmer television sets have replaced the old-fashioned TVs in rooms. All its doors now feature electronic card locking system. Automatic Internet connection is available in all rooms and electrical plugs have been upgraded to cater for all sorts of international electrical plugs, be they British, European or American.
“We are particularly proud of the fact that we could prove that we are conscious of the environment and have put in energy saving light in all our corridors,” said Boucher.
There are also four new family rooms complete with sleeper couches and interlinking rooms for larger families.
The restaurant is also going to be refurbished and a new cocktail bar will be installed. Boucher said the hotel has been fully operational throughout the refurbishment process without complaints from any of guests.
“Year 2008 is a year of new beginnings at the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino and we invite everyone to come and look at and try out our new rooms,” said Boucher.
