He said the team had the final training
preparations last week ending with a friendly game against the U/23
invitational team at the Hage Geingob Stadium. Meyer said the team is leaving for
Chile this Friday and it will face Romania in its opening IRB Junior
World Cup match. He said the Namibian team used to be on the A
Section of the IRB Junior World Cup, but after losing in 2006, is now
in the B Section.

To see how far the team has gone with
its preparations, a friendly was organised earlier in the week
against the U/23 National Rugby team. The African Champions lost the
game 22 – 36 to the U/23 team. Cristoph Alexander, the Chief
Executive Director of the NRU, said, basing on its performance in the
friendly, the team played well with good speed and has a high fitness
level. He said most of the teams the Namibian players will face are
physically stronger, so the Namibian boys will have to use speed by
playing at a higher tempo with skills to consolidate their games.
Alexander said he is sure that the team will perform well at the IRB
Junior Rugby World Cup.

But Meyer said he is positive the
Namibian boys will win their place in the A Section, after going
through tough training and preparations. He is also very positive
that the team will do well because of what management has invested in
getting it prepared.
The other teams Namibia will face are
Chile and Cook Islands. Meyer said the team captain is Thomasau
Forbes, who was chosen because of his leadership skills and is one of
the highly rated rugby players in South Africa's rugby league.
He said Forbes, who plays for Griequas,
does his job well in leading the team. For Forbes, all that mattered
was making it into the national team, and being given the honour of
captaining the team was a bonus.
