Dear Sir
I read with interest your opinion in the "This Week in
the Khuta Column" on Page 4 of the 01-07 February edition, regarding the
Brave Warriors. You are probably the only person in this whole world
who was not heartened by the performance of our team. Granted, the first match
was whack, but contrary to what you and your fellow detractors expected, the
team put in a better performance during its subsequent matches.
Anybody should take heart from the spirit in which the boys
approached match 2 and 3 after that drubbing in the first match.
You are also the only person who thinks we are Africa's
laughing stock. Go to most soccer sites and newspapers around the world and you
would find very few who have not been impressed with the spirit of the Brave
Warriors. One commentator even said all our players should have received man of
the match awards after the match against Ghana. Is that what you call laughing
stock?
Namibians are actually saying a lot these days and are very
excited about the team, saying that the same team should be kept and groomed to
qualify for Angola and South Africa 2010.
And for your own information, the supporters club's presence
was well-appreciated by the players and the officials. It was never a waste of
time. They displayed a supportive spirit which the rest of us should emulate.
You seem to have an obsession with Bafana Bafana and I don't
see why. In case you have not noticed, your beloved Bafana are also on their
way back home after failing to clear the first hurdle.
Luckily for Namibia, people like you are in the minority and
we should not be too much concerned by people who do not appreciate the energy,
sweat and hunger that our players put in to fly the country's flag.
It is perhaps good think that the views expressed in your
column do not represent the opinion of your newspaper. It would be a sad day
for Namibian soccer if an institution such as the Namibia Economist would
subscribe to your ill-informed diatribe on our heroes.
