The
Ohlthaver and List (O&L) Group has launched the Talent Attraction
Programme, an initiative that aims at giving graduates employment offers in the
company. The announcement of the first selected graduates in
the fields of Engineering, Food and Health, Aqua Marine, Human Resources and
Finance, who are now employees of the O&L, was made this week by Sven
Thieme, the company's executive chairman.
He
said, “Successful companies need to engage in human capital management as a
strategic and deliberate effort to attract, select and develop talented and
skilled employees.”
O&L
had about 40 applications by Namibian graduates and only six were successful
after a process of screening, competency based assessment, merit and
interviews.
Thieme
said the programme was in line with the company's objective to be amongst the
top 10 companies to work for in southern Africa by 2011.
The
six graduates are Adri van Zyl (B Industrial Psychology), Tobias Tjimbandi (Bs
Electrical Engineering), Jason Shikalepo (B of Economics), Eugene Pearson (HR
Management), Selma Nasheya (BS Natural Resources and Honours in Enviro
Management) and Kavena Hambira (B Tech in HR Management).
Berthold
Mukuahima, O&L's Director of Human Capital said the youth that have joined
the company are talented individuals; something Namibia and South Africa has
been losing to the western world.
He said the company visited the University of Namibia,
Polytechnic and South African universities to introduce the programme and
managed to attract 40 applications.
