The entire world is concerned about Global Warming. Namibia
is concerned about Power shortages. REEECAP is a capacity building programme on Renewable Energy
and Energy Efficiency, which is funded by Danida through the Royal Danish
Embassy in Pretoria. The Renewable Energy and
Energy Efficiency Institute at the Polytechnic of Namibia (REEEI) was tasked by
the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) to be the implementing agency for
REEECAP, in conjunction with the Desert Research Foundation of Namibia (DRFN)
and the Habitat Research and Development Centre (HRDC).
REEECAP has spent one year and a considerable amount of
money in analysing a broad variety of problems Namibia has in connection with
energy supply and conservation and determining which steps can be taken in the
right direction.
This media initiative aims at drawing attention towards the
local aspects of the above-mentioned problems. Therefore, REEECAP offers a
sequence of ten weekly meetings at the Polytechnic of Namibia, which will be
designed to inform both the media and the lecturers of Polytech about the
topics at hand. REEEI, being the entity responsible for REEECAP will be in
charge of following these issues in future. Specifically, REEEI shall implement
the lessons learned from REEECAP and become the hub of information
dissemination for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency nationwide, with
particular focus on enriching the curricula and activities of Polytech with all
aspects of RE & EE.
The weekly meeting is planned to cover the timeslot on
Wednesday 11h30 to 12h30 for ten weeks. A well prepared presentation on one of
the topics on REEECAP’s programme will be held for 15 to 30 minutes during the
meetings.
After that, discussions and
further information sessions will be offered to the audience. In case the room
and timeslot will be needed for other events, the REEECAP event will be held
from 9h30 to 10h30 at the Hotel School.
