Arie Schans (pictured, right), who was the caretaker coach of
national soccer team during the African Cup of Nations, is now officially on
the position. His appointment was announced by the Namibia
Football Association (NFA) this week and the Dutchman is expected back in the
country anytime from now.

Schans, who is from the Netherlands, took charge of the team just
two months before the African Cup competition, but without enough time to
prepare. That was after the late Ben Bamfuchile had to return to his
home-country Zambia when his illness could not allow him to continue with his
duties as coach.
Talking with African Football Media recently about the Brave
Warriors’ performance at the African Cup of Nations, Schans said: “We showed
that if we stay organised we have an interesting team. You know it's a
different football world in Namibia than playing in Europe. It's very important
for Namibia to play more friendlies against stronger opponents to expose the
players to that top level of experience."
He said he thinks there are a number of
youngsters coming through who have demonstrated they have what it takes to
produce at a high level. He has now been offered a chance, through this
appointment, to prove his clot and put his philosophy into practice by
preparing the Brave Warriors for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. (Pic:
