The past three years have seen two of the capital city's
biggest malls being renovated and expanded. Both the Wernhil Park Shopping
Centre and Maerua Mall have been modernised, adding value to the city. Wernhil
is now dubbed “Pulse of the City.” The objective of redeveloping
Wernhil Park was to reposition the centre as the premier hub for business and
leisure activities in Windhoek’s central business district (CBD).

The redevelopment included a retail extension of 7000m² adding
300 new shaded parking bays, as well as creating an overall new and exiting
environment for shopping and leisure, by way of realigning malls, adding
exiting new retailers, and redesigning the entire Centre through features
embracing Namibia’s kaleidoscope of colours.
The redevelopment supports the City of Windhoek’s efforts to
strengthen the CBD in view of ensuring its attraction for shoppers, tenants and
visitors to Namibia, according to the Ohlthaver & List Group, which owns
the mall.
Inaugurated in 1990, the Wernhil Park Shopping Centre is
host to a number of retail outlets. The centre was constructed as part of the
City of Windhoek’s “Talstrassen project” that commenced in 1988. The Wernhil
Park Shopping Centre is managed by Broll & List Property Management
(Namibia) (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of the Ohlthaver & List Group of Companies.
Broll Namibia’s portfolio further includes prime properties such as the Standard
Bank Centre, Kaiserkrone and Carl List Haus, with an overall property
investment exceeding N$600 million.
The Ohlthaver & List Group is also working with all key
stakeholders of the CBD by way of a joint effort and stronger partnership to
ensure the CBD’s sustainability. Windhoek’s CBD is regarded as one of the
cleanest and safest on the African continent.
