The shopping atmosphere at the country's biggest mall,
Maerua Mall, is better than it was before the renovation and expansion
programme of two years ago, centre manager Thea Thornley told the Economist
this week. “There is a great atmosphere. Definitely better than
before,” said Thornley. Thornley added that consumers and businesses benefited
from the expansion through more shops and a bigger variety under one roof. She
said the mall was a very convenient shopping mall with plenty of parking space.
Asked about the advantages of Maerua Mall compared to other
malls in the city, Thornley said:
We would like to think of Maerua Mall as a safe and family
friendly shopping centre with so many stores and parking space,” said Thornley.
Commenting on recent complaints by some retailers that taxi
driver were disturbing customers, Thornley disclosed that the taxi rank may be
relocated in the near future, which she said could solve the problem.
Maerua Mall is situated on an about 44000 m² piece of land
with 2,200 parking spaces. The mall has about 111 retailers, a movie theatre, a
gym, banks, doctors, dentists, insurance brokers, architects and attorneys’
offices.
The centre currently hosts South African retail shops
such as Checkers, Truworths, Stuttafrods, Mr Price Weekend Material, Mr Price
Home, CNA, Clicks, Hi-Fi Corporation, Jet, Ster Kinekor Cinemas, together with
coffee shops and restaurants such as Panarottis, Spur, Cattle Baron, Saddles,
Wimpy, Brazilian Coffee Shop. Other retailers, Edgars, Boardmans, Foschini,
Markhams, Sportsman Warehouse, @ Home, Total Sports, Milady's and Mr Price
Group.
