| A huge welcome was extended to
the two German warships and massive supply vessel that sailed into the Walvis
Bay harbour this week, which was described as an international courtesy call to
various ports of calls, as well as cadette training for German navy officers.
The frigates “Koln” and “Hamburg”, which is the most modern air defence frigate
in the world, pulled into berth number five on Monday - a day after the 20000
ton frigate “Berlin”. The frigates’ previous destination was Ghana, and will be
departing for South African waters on Friday to undergo a month-long training
in Simons Town with the SA navy. The warship trio is sailing under naval
command of task officer Michael Budde, with a crew of over 700 navy personnel
and officers manning the vessels. |
