Eve Black, the bank's Public Relations and Corporate Communications, said the main race starts at 08h00 along Independence Avenue on 10 February and the Kidz Challenge will be held on Saturday afternoon and is open to all children under the age of six.
The annual Nedbank Cycle Challenge, which was initiated with the aim of developing a culture of cycling in Namibia, is now being used as a platform of developing young cyclists. It has three stages: the 20km, 35km and 75km races.
Rules are clearly stated on the forms to be filled out by all participants, and the wearing of helmets is compulsory. Black said the race numbers will be collected on Saturday, and the entry fee for the Kidz Challenge is N$15, N$50 per person and N$200 for school, business, family and open teams.
Nedbank's Managing Director Erastus Hoveka said, “Since its inception in 1986, the Nedbank Cycle Challenge has become the biggest fun and fitness event on the Namibian sporting calendar in terms of participants.” He said this is the event's 23rd milestone and is looking forward to growing it more in the future.
Hoveka thanked all the partners, Coca Cola, Namibia Health Plan, Mutual and Federal, Radio Wave, Old Mutual and Windhoek Pedal Power for their support and contributions. He said life is not always about banking and business, but also about lifestyle, sport and leisure.
According to Hoveka, the Nedbank Cycle Challenge has spurred enthusiasm, potential and excitement year after year from many who joined either as cyclists, supporters or spectators and the bank is happy to be able to make such a fun event possible for hundreds of cyclists and spectators.
