Managing Director Frans Ndoroma said the donation fully connected SWITCH
cellphones is a way of helping in the provision of communication access to the
52 selected children’s shelters and old age homes.
The donation was handed over to the
Minister of Health and Social Services Dr Richard Kamwi for the distribution.
Ndoroma said SWITCH is helping in bridging
the telephonic divide in society and is ideal for meeting the growing demand
for affordable telecommunications services in Namibia and emerging markets.
He said, “We are dedicated to making a
difference by helping where help is needed. Through this gesture our company
aims to build relationships that ultimately produce an overall positive impact
on society. Today's donation represents our efforts to address the problem of
lack of access to communication facilities suffered by many of these children’s
shelters and old age homes.”
Ndoroma said Telecom believes that by
providing financial or material support as well as spiritual care to those who
need it most as a hallmark of good a corporate citizen. Minister Kamwi said he
is grateful for the donation since communication is a critical requirement
within his ministry, whether it is for a doctor, ambulance or social worker.
He said in the field of health all depend
heavily on communication and the tools that make it effective. Kamwi said in
cases of emergencies or natural disasters devices like SWITCH cellphones can
literally be the determining factor between life and death. He called the gift
a life saving donation to members of the community who are in need of vital
communication tools.
Kamwi said, “I trust that the beneficiaries
will put the SWITCH phones to proper and effective use, for the purposes
intended, which are to meet the needs of those they serve on a daily basis.”
He went on to urge and encourage the
emergency, social, maintenance workers, family and friends who will be
receiving the calls to answer and respond to the calls in a professional, timely
and compassionate manner.
Kamwi thanked Telecom on
behalf of government for the support and commitment to giving priority to the
vulnerable groups.
