Where is the biomass monitoring station? PDF Print
Written by Staff Reporters

Dear Sir,
I understand from a farming friend of mine that following this “if and but” rainfall season, in earlier years satellite picture of the biomass could be obtained from the local Met office. These provided a pretty good idea of where grass growth occurred and grazing was sufficient.

This station was situated at Okaukuejo in the Etosha National Park.
Apparently this useful service is no longer available. My friend understands the operator has moved to Windhoek and the service is either defunct or discontinued. For the farming community and many other users this must be difficult to accept.
Do you think the powers-that-be would be able to resuscitate this service?
Your newspaper could certainly follow this up as this type of service is of much value to many practical aspects of life.

Yours faithfully,
Grass Roots
