Jürgen Goetz (left),
representing the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) at the International Trade Show for Caravaning, Motor
and Tourism (CMT) in Stuttgart, Germany,
speaks to a couple of prospective visitors at this year’s show. Europe’s largest and most important
public fair on the tourism industry ended on Sunday after eight days of intense
activities in Stuttgart’s recently inaugurated expo complex. Travel experts
representing the country at the trade show were very satisfied with the turnout
of potential tourists to Namibia at their respective stalls. While in the past
Namibia’s companies have been accommodated at one central stall organised and
managed by the NTB, the 2008 show was different. For the first time, the local
operators had to hire their own floorspace because the NTB had decided not to
organise a national stall. While the country remains popular among exotic
tourist destinations, some would-be tourist seemed to be rather disorganised or
naïve, with most falling prey to the misbelief that they could just board a
plane and fly into Namibia without planning their trip.
