President Hifikepunye Pohamba has said the government does not want anyone to die of hunger in view of the looming drought in the country. Pohamba told a public meeting at Outapi that regional governors and councillors have already been advised to cooperate with headmen in identifying starving households for possible government assistance.

He said regional governors had been sent letters requesting regional councils to undertake the identification process in conjunction with headmen and other stakeholders.
The President said the government has decided that all closed community water taps should be reopened on the grounds that no rain is available to provide everybody water. But he said communities still have a responsibility to pay for their water consumption. Many community water points in the north have been closed due to the non-payment of bills.
