Cisco this week announced that Telecom has become the first
service provider in emerging Africa, outside South Africa, to be awarded
membership to its Powered Programme.
The Cisco Powered Programme,
launched in 1997, is its premier partnering programme for service providers and
includes more than 300 global members
Cisco Powered Programme members can take advantage of Cisco’s
marketing and technical expertise and utilise Cisco market recognition in the
promotion of their network services. The goal of the programme is to assist
service providers in the marketing and promotion of IP services, allowing

The Cisco Powered Programme has helped businesses find
high-quality, reliable service providers. “Being endorsed in the Cisco Powered
Programme means Telecom’s customers will be able to take advantage of our
investment in world-class technology, helping them to grow their networks and
implement applications with ease. We are committed to building a network
infrastructure that will accommodate and facilitate customer growth,” said
Coenraad Coetzee, Telecom’s general manager for Information and Communication
Technology (ICT) and Corporate Business Solutions (CBS).
“The programme was developed as a way for Cisco to endorse
service providers that have been identified as having made a commitment to
using Cisco’s technology to help drive reliability and customer satisfaction. Telecom
has met these requirements, and we are pleased to give it Cisco's stamp of
approval,” said Anthony Vonsee, Cisco’s general manager for Emerging Africa. Telecom
received the “Best IP Network of the Year” Award at the Cisco Networkers
Conference held Sun City, South Africa earlier this year.
Telecom is serving more than 136,100 customers, with 1,306
employees and annual revenues of more than N$1 billion.
