Page 2 of 2 The reason why I immediately opened the suitcase was because the wrapping was missing around my suitcase and my lock on the suitcase was broken. To my shock when I opened the suitcase – my clothes was in a total mess & my jewelry stolen. At that moment I told the gentleman from SAA that my suitcase was broken into & my jewelry stolen – he then again told me in a very irritated voice: it is not SAA’s fault – it must be the staff at customs!” Needless to say – I missed my final day of the course and did not qualify for my certificate. I then arranged for an earlier flight home. Back in Windhoek the next day – I went to see the manager of SAA. He was very apologetic & helpful and immediately reimbursed me for the 1 x set of clothes & toiletries bought. Which I do appreciate very much. I then explained to him that the I would like to insist SAA to help with 1 x return ticket for either myself or the training facilitator so that I can finish the course to qualify for the certificate. I also stated the money spend to attend the training course: not even taking into consideration the car rental & phone calls made - approximate costs involved +/- R12000.00. I even went as far as to state/offer that I will pay for the accommodation, car rental and any other expenses – if they could only from their side offer a free return ticket – any flight – any time… After numerous correspondences I eventually received an e-mail from SAA that they would not assist in any other way. They should rather have kept the few Rands they gave me for 1 set of clothes & toiletries. There is no comparison to that & R12, 000.00 of money wasted. Not even mentioning the fact that I am a SAA voyager frequent flyer member. What a disgrace! Mrs. M. Roets-Malan Letter shortened for space. No comment could be obtained from SAA at the time of going to press, despite an inquiry having lodged earlier during the week. –Ed. |
