| La Nina still no guarantee of good rain |

Page 2 of 2 Does this mean that La Nina indicates a good rainfall season? Not necessarily. The daily rainfall figures for very many places in the country show that there have been several, if not many, disappointing La Nina-dominated seasons, though, at the same time, it should be noted that there is a fairly reliable tendency for the rain to appear during the March-April season with intensities of value. But, once again, this must be taken as no more than a tendency rather than a fact. The idea of “weak” or “strong” also has little application to the reality of the forthcoming season. In both El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and La Nina events, this identity relates poorly to the rainfall results during that season across Namibia. The current event is still a “weak” La Nina, so was this last ENSO, yet overall it was a very dry season. |
