The “Go Africa” scholarship exchange programme, an initiative by Federal President of Germany Horst Köhler and the Federal Agency for Civic Education, is benefiting many southern African academics and experts.
Scholarship recipients are young students and graduates who spend two weeks in Germany. Half of the participants are from Germany, the other half from southern Africa. This year, the second phase will see the recipients visiting Namibia.

Having spent two weeks in Germany, the young scientists arrived in the country this week and will be here till 18 September.
Heike Uhrich of the Goethe-Zentrum in Windhoek said the programme aims to create a basis for intercultural exchange and to correct misperceptions about the reality of every day life in Southern Africa and Germany.
She said another aim is the establishment of partnerships between future generations of Africa and German academics and experts in the fields of economics, politics and law.

Participants will visit different venues and will have the opportunity to meet with German and Namibian representatives from all fields of the society in order to learn about the political, social and economical systems of Namibia and Germany as well as education and health care services and the history of both countries.
After a few days in Windhoek, the group will travel to different places of interest, amongst others to Otjiwarongo, Etosha, Twyfelfontein and Swakopmund.
