Dear Editor
The latest petrol price jump was, if the
statement made in its justification is true, made in the attempt to equate
petrol price with the current charges made in our neighbouring states.
Sweet, but not very thoughtful, surely,
Taking the size of Namibia in comparison
with our neighbours, the varying distances which travellers must cover, do not
bear favourable comparison.
Doesn't this approach gain any
consideration?
And Angola, with its far lower price per
litre cost? Isn't Angola a neighbouring state? Why did this piece of
mathematical work take this into account?
The bottom line must be that with
inflationary pressures increasing, a more defensive approach would have
assisted the economy and those who live by it and in it rather more.
Rather, could some less overt charge be
raised to ease the widespread financial pressure?
