| I fear for my life |

Dear Sir I have noticed that the Economist was very vocal about road safety. At that time, around December last year, there was a visible improvement in law enforcement. But I am afraid, we are stuck again in our earlier complacency.
As a daily user of Windhoek's taxis, I am scared every
single day by the complete disregard taxi drivers have for the law. This
situation will only see a permanent solution once law enforcement is directed
at taxis in a focussed and targeted manner. Why is it necessary to stop dead in
a lane of moving traffic? The driver can pick us up just as well after pulling
off the road first. Why is it necessary to skip red traffic lights as if it is
normal? Can taxi drivers not read? How did they get their licenses? Bribed the
Natis officials or what? Taxi drivers take our money and some our lives also. |
